Barb was introduced to Pilates in 1996, not long after moving to San Diego from Seattle. After years of playing competitive sports, teaching skiing and weight lifting she began changing her focus from weight training and high intensity aerobic training, to building core strength and a longer, leaner more flexible body. This fitness goal led her to Pilates.
She began taking classes at one of the few studios in San Diego at the time and was immediately hooked. Her instructor, Maja Wollman was classically trained by Joseph Pilates in New York City, and is one of only a handful of first generation students of Joseph Pilates. Some of the others include Kathy Grant, Jay Grimes and Ron Fletcher.
After training with Maja for a year, Barb was given the opportunity to take part in an apprenticeship and upon completion was offered an instructor position. She taught for Maja until 2001. After leaving Maja, she went to work helping to open Fuerza studio in Point Loma where she continued working until 2004. In 2005 she opened her own studio, South Coast Pilates and also completed a comprehensive certification program with noted instructor Kathy Corey.
Barb’s preferred training style is classical Pilates with a modern twist. Her goal is to help students feel good from the inside out, and to help them succeed in creating a leaner, stronger and more flexible body that will allow them to safely and successfully pursue all of their activities.
